Andrew is currently a Consultant to the UK-based Holmes Miller Architects. He is involved in the setup of new projects including reviewing appointments with the practice’s external advisers as well as reviewing and developing supporting technical documents such as scopes of service and design responsibility matrices. He also provides general technical support during design and construction stages including developing strategies, practice policies and procedures to respond to new legislation affecting the construction industry.

Andrew has been instructed as an independent Expert Witness on several matters in the UK and has played a key role assisting on large, complex, and high-value claims in international arbitration. He has prepared reports for use in mediation, adjudication and arbitration and has also prepared CPR Part 35-compliant reports for service in litigation, including in the Technology and Construction Court (TCC).

He has investigated and given opinion on matters such as:

  • Design defects
  • Building defects
  • Design co-ordination
  • Contract administration
  • Appointment and fees
  • Professional negligence

Andrew has engaged in the expert conferral process, most significantly in connection with international disputes and has also appeared before a tribunal in an ICC Arbitration alongside the lead expert.

Andrew is a trained adjudicator and has completed the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) course on Adjudication in the Construction Industry.

Andrew is trained Arbitrator and has completed the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Domestic Arbitration pathway. He is a Fellow of the Institute.

Andrew is currently appointed as the Architect-member of a three-person Dispute Avoidance and Adjudication Board (“DAAB”) for a large-scale commercial project being procured using the FIDIC suite of construction contracts.

Andrew is a practice examiner for the Architects Professional Examination Authority in Scotland (APEAS) and the University of Cambridge; examining Part 3 candidates seeking entry to the UK Register of Architects.

He is also a guest lecturer for architecture students on topics such as building contracts, professional practice and dispute resolution and has recently participated in a mentoring programme for architecture students about the embark on their practical training.
